Texture describes the feel of an actual surface. In art, when we talk about
“texture,” we mean how things look and feel in a picture. Artists use different tricks to make their drawings interesting and fun to look at, just like you like to touch and feel different things.
So, let’s say you’re drawing a picture of a cat. You can make the cat’s fur look soft and fuzzy by drawing lots of tiny lines close together. Or if you’re drawing a bumpy road, you might use little dots or short lines to show the bumps. Examples of actual texture
rough, smooth, slick, bumpy, velvety, jagged, prickly,
grainy, soft, wiry, pebbly, Wood can be rough.
A glass can be smooth or slick.
Rocks can be bumpy.
A road can be bumpy.
Fabric can be velvety.
A mountain can be jagged.
Blackberry bushes are prickly
The sponge your mom uses to scrub the dishes can be wiry.
Fur can be wiry or smooth. A cats fur is smooth, but raccoons have wiry fur.
