In our world, we use the word love in many different ways. I love that TV show, I love to dance, I love to do art, and maybe I love Ice cream. But what does love really mean? The dictionary says love is an intense feeling of deep affection or like or enjoy very much.

As Christians, our love is different because God is the Creator of all things, including the Creator of love. If you know God and expect his sacrifice, God’s Son, then you can know the true value of love from God. God’s Word says only a person who is born of God and knows God can truly love others.

So how can we express God’s love to one another? One way is by giving hugs and kisses to your parents and being kind to your brothers and sisters. Another way is doing things for people to help out without being asked to do it. Sharing and spending time with others also shows love.

As parents showing God’s love can be as simple as being there for your kiddos. I know that my daughter (when she was in high school) often didn’t want my advice. She just wanted my listening ear.

True love. Selfless love. Our imperfect human love is no match for God’s perfect love. And if our children understand God’s love for them, they can begin to live from a place of resting in God’s perfect love even when they are not perfect.

God’s Love and Ours

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
