Luau Parrot

Parrots are found in Hawaii where they have celebrations called luaus. A luau is a party or big celebration with family and friends just like the one in Luke 15. Many of you have read the parable of the lost son.

This is a drawing and painting lesson of a parrot at a luau in watercolor for 4th-8th grades with step-by-step drawing and painting instructions.

Grades 4th-8th

1 to 2-day project (45 minutes a day)

Learning Objectives

• Draw a parrot.

• Learn to draw letters.

• Learn about overlapping or layering.

• Practice mixing colors.

• Use wet-in-wet technique in watercolor.

Materials

• 9” x 12” or 11” x 18” watercolor paper

• Pencils

• Erasers

• Watercolor paint

• Paintbrushes

• Water containers

• Paper towels

• Hair dryer (not necessary, but helpful)
